Skiing holidays may not come top of an eco-friendly activities list but it doesn’t stop us trying to make a difference, however small.
What do Le Ski do?
Food miles As we have been established in the Three Valleys and Val d’Isère for so many years, we have built and maintained excellent relationships with the local people. Our food, drinks and laundry suppliers are all from the Savoie region and the majority of our chalets are owned by local families, many of whom work for local businesses too – ski instructors, boulangerie-owners and teachers for instance! Our house wine and our upgrade options are also all French.
Recycling The recycling facilities in resort are excellent and all our staff recycle as much as possible in the local poubelles. You could always help by separating your newspapers and empty bottles when you’re finished with them. Our old uniforms are reused or given to charity.
Bulk shopping Our deliveries all come up to resort, which means that we don’t send our Chalet Hosts in several different vehicles down to the supermarket to shop, which in turn means that rather than plastic bags, they use cardboard boxes which are recycled when they’re past being useable.
‘Green’ cleaning products We use eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning products wherever possible in all our chalets. Think how much nasty anti-planet stuff is not used in 27 chalets on a daily basis! We also don’t provide toiletries apart from soap in the chalets as those little bottles are a waste of plastic.
You can help During your stay you can join us in trying to be as aware as possible. If your room is too hot please adjust the thermostat rather than open a window. If you’re the last to bed or last out in the morning, please turn off the lights. Refill your bottle with our lovely (and free to you) Alpine tap water, rather than buy a new plastic bottle every day. Give anything you think can be recycled to your hosts to put in the special bins.
Meet the locals In Courchevel and La Tania our meat comes from the lovely (and very efficient) Marie-Noëlle in the boucherie in Le Praz. In Val d’Isère it is delivered fresh from the butchers just up the road. All our resorts use the boulangerie nearest to the chalets for those fresh baguettes. Our wine comes from the charming M. et Mme. Perret who have supplied us with our house wines for 15 years and who were delighted to help us put together our upgrade selection.
We really want to do our bit for the environment, to try and ensure that future generations can enjoy the mountains as much as we all do. |
