The summer holidays are here so make the most of the great weather and get outside, we have a look at some great summer activities that will also help keep you fit for next time you hit the slopes.

1.Road Biking

The recent Grand Depart for Le Tour De France in Yorkshire has inspired and motivated multitudes of people to get on their bike. Bike sales have been booming across the country and why not? It's a great way to get fit, builds stamina and leg strength and even better it's low impact exercise for anyone with weak knees.

2.Mountain Biking

If cycling on the road isn't your thing then there are lots of opportunities to get on your mountain bike around the country. Most of the national forest parks have specially built mountain bike tracks with varying grades from beginner to advanced not unlike the ski slopes! Again it's great for building up stamina and leg strength. Whizzing down the tracks also gives a similar adrenline rush as skiing or snowboarding.

3.Swimming

This is great exercise for al the muscles of the body and will build up endurance. If swimming in the pool doesn't float your boat then why not take advantage of this lovely heatwave and try a bit of open water swimming at your local beach. Just make sure you go to a lifeguarded beach and always swim betwee the red and yellow flags to stay safe!

4.Roller Blading

Roller blading might not be quite as big as it was back in the nineties but it's still a great cross-over activity for skiing, incorporating balance, leg strength and if you can get competent enough to go downhill you can even work on your turn technique!

5.Hiking

The UK is blessed with some fantastic national parks so get out there and get hiking, not only will you see some amazing scenery you'll develop your aerobic capacity whilst working those legs again.

6.Surfing

Great for all round fitness, will help your balance and core strength, if you haven't tried it before, just as you would for skiing - get a lesson, you'll get to grips with it a lot quicker!

Have a wonderful summer and hope you get outside to get fit for next winters skiing holiday!
