Appy Yorkshire Day!

01-Aug-2016

No, it's not a new application for your posh phone, it's just greetings from Yorkshire. Here in Huddersfield, Le Ski's World Headquarters, we're celebrating Yorkshire Day once again. The day when we remind ourselves what a wonderful county it is. The day when we recount the achievements of wonderful Yorkshire man and women.

Joe Root

Let's start with Joe Root. The Yorkshire and England cricketer scored 254 runs in the latest test match, 20 more than the opposing team scored between them! Good Lad!

Captain Cook

Next up the explorer, Captain James Cook. In the late 1700's, long before even Geoffrey Boycott was born, he was showing classic Yorkshire grit and determination by making vital mapping trips to Newfoundland, Australia and New Zeland. Where would their cricket teams be without Captain Cook?!

James Atkinson

And what about James Henry Atkinson? Who, we here you say? Well, he only invented the mousetrap for goodness sake! In 1899 he patented 'The Little Nipper' Ouch........

Bob Dylan

What? Surely the greatest living songwriter was born in Duluth, Minnesota on the 24th May 1941, not Yorkshire? Yes, of course he was. But he played a few times in Yorkshire and your editor took this picture of him personally. At the Blackpool Opera House. no, that's not in Yorkshire either.......

E-News

You may imagine this is a modern invention, linked to electronic versions of newsletters. In fact it's what we Yorkshire folk have always called news. "E, news is on , Nora" is a common cry round these parts. "E-mail" is also a daily uttering once that nice chap from the Royal Mail has delivered your letters for the day......

Need we go on? You get the idea.....

While you've all been watching Wimbledon and eating fruit tree strawberries we've been busy making a short video on the wonders of Yorkshire.
