New Aquatic Centre for Couchevel to open in December 2015

04-Mar-2015

If you haven't already heard, Courchevel is building a new aquatic centre to open in December 2015 ready for the 2015/16 ski season. Myself and ski host Louise took a tour of the site to see how work is progressing:

It's still a building site so hard hats are compulsory!

If you've been on holiday with us in Courchevel this season or last you can't help but have noticed the building site that will be the new aquatic centre on the bend in the road just after Courchevel Village known as Grand Combes. During the summer of 2014 works progressed to the point where the roof was fixed and all windows fitted to make the building watertight so that internal work could carry on during this winter. As a keen swimmer I've always been disappointed by the lack of a decent pool in the Courchevel valley and so have been watching the development of the new centre with anticipation. The interactive plans have been on display for sometime, see the video below but even partially complete I wasn't prepared for the scale of the building - it's huge!

As well as a massive leisure/recreation area there will also be an adults only well-being area including an indoor/outdoor salt water pool with bubble beds kept at a temperature of 34 degrees, there will also be a sauna and jacuzzi outside for those who like the Finnish way of doing things with a roll in the snow straight from the sauna! If that doesn't float your boat there will be more saunas and steam rooms inside along with 17 massage cabins and a hair salon.

The main leisure/recreation area will include a 4 lane 25m swimming pool which will be kept at 27 degrees perfect for training, a 180m2 recreation laguna with bubble seats and massage jets which will be 32 degrees - peefect for relaxing, a diving pool, wild river canyon, pentaglisse which looks ike it will be a four lane water slide, an outdoor pool which will have a whirlpool, bubble jets and a water current and will be kept at a nice warm 34 degrees. Also in this area will be a chidren's paddling pool and a surf pool for those who'd like to try surfing or bodyboarding in a controlled environment.

As if all the water based activities weren't enough to be going on with, if you don't want to get wet there will also be a climbing wall and a restaurant overlooking the main recreation activities.  We're pretty excited to see the finished building next December!
