Snow Report 17th January

17-Jan-2016

Courchevel & La Tania

The snow is immense. And more keeps coming! Every morning there has been a fluffy dusting over the top of well pisted runs which seem to be lasting the duration of each day! Later in the afternoon a few runs can get a little bit choppy… but it’s nothing that isn’t manageable and it certainly is still enjoyable!

La Tania as always has some lovely well-kept runs that provide shelter from the snow clouds that have been ever present all week! If you’re looking for visibility then this is definitely a place worth checking out, and Bouc Blanc is a perfect stop for lunch on those colder chilly days!

Off-piste is looking a lot better than it has done so far this season, yet rocks are still not too far away and the avalanche risk remains high at around 3/4+ each day so this option is obviously available – but please carry it out with caution and ensure the correct equipment and training is taken seriously. Plesae speak to your GSMs about arranging off piste guides or an off piste lesson to brush up on your technique.

We're expecting blue skies towards the end of the week so should be a fantastic week for skiing and great weather for the Valley rally on Friday!

Val D'Isere

The beginning part of the week saw heavy snow throughout the day, white out and up to 110km winds.  There was a new dump of about 70cm of snow, however, due to wind blow the lower slopes have iced straight back up again!

Temperatures today: - 10 degrees in the centre of town, -15 degrees at 2700m and –20 degrees at 3500m (wind chill making it seem even colder!!)

We have more fresh snow forecast for Monday night and during the day on Tuesday followed by blue skies on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday followed by more snow on Friday. So looking like a great week in Val D'Isere this week.

Base of snow: 113cm
Summit: 190cm

Last snowfall: 22cm in last 72 hours
19cm in last 48 hours

36/42 lifts currently open
54/76 trails open

Hope you all have a great week's skiing!
