'A group of 12 of us stayed in the La Saluire chalet this Jan 2022. We had the most fabulous week and were treated like complete royalty by our chalet hosts Emma, Holly and Rupert and cannot thank them enough for their amazing service.'

Why is Courchevel expensive?

Anyone asking why Courchevel is so expensive has usually only been looking at Courchevel 1850…and not the other, much better value, villages that also make up the resort.

  • - Yes, Courchevel 1850 is expensive
  • - But Courchevel is more than just 1850...
  • - Courchevel 1650 is smaller and less pretentious
  • - So Courchevel doesn't have to be expensive

Courchevel 1850 is expensive

Courchevel 1850 is expensive. There’s no debate about that. There are 19 five-star hotels in Courchevel 1850 and 6 Michelin-starred restaurants.

Russian oligarchs have private chalets there, as do David and Victoria Beckham. Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge (aka Kate Middleton) are regular visitors.

But Courchevel is more than just 1850...

Courchevel Moriond – also known as Courchevel 1650 – is still high enough to be assured of snow and links in to the same slopes as Courchevel 1850.

Courchevel 1650 is smaller and less pretentious

It’s smaller, less pretentious, easier to get to (and get around in), and you won’t find any oligarchs.

You will find a large choice of chalets, bars that have more than just €30 cocktails on the menu, affordable restaurants and supermarkets, and has Aquamotion – the best aqua-centre in the Alps – within walking distance.

Courchevel doesn't have to be expensive

Yes, Courchevel can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be if you look beyond 1850 to Courchevel Moriond/1650.
