Welcome to the first Le Ski blog! Now that the season is well underway, with staff all trained and guests in resort, I thought we'd start off with our top 5 reasons to choose a chalet holiday. I hope you agree they're the best way to ski!
1) They're easy peasy
The trickiest thing is choosing the holiday. After you’ve booked, it’s all so easy! You’re sent the flight details, you show up at the right airport and get on the plane. On arrival in France, you’re greeted by a member of the Le Ski team and you’re delivered into the hands of your chalet host, then the lift passes are delivered into yours. Your chalet host cooks your meals, pours your wine, and washes up afterwards. Our staff help you with booking restaurants/lessons/taxis. All in all, you really can leave your brain to focus on skiing and having a lovely time!
2) Avoid bank charges
Paying in pounds for as much of your holiday as you can (lessons, lift passes…) is a sensible way to avoid bank charges and poor exchange rates. You limit the amount you need to spend in euros in resort and save your holiday money for lunch and après drinks!
3) Sociability
If you book a chalet for you and a group of people you love spending time with, you’re guaranteed a fantastic time. But you can also book into a shared chalet and have a real blast meeting some new people. A classic chalet holiday involves skiing all day, then sitting around the table with like-minded skiers and just having a good old natter til it’s time to do it all over again the next day. Maybe it has something to do with the free wine, but people are usually at their most relaxed and fun on holiday, especially with new people. A lot of guests end up skiing with people they’ve met on a chalet holiday years ago and many become friends for life.
4) Emergencies
If you succumb to injury on your ski holiday, then you’ve got a ready-made helper in the form of the Guest Services Manager. They’ll help you with doctors/hospitals/insurance/airport wheelchair requests – all the stuff that could easily stress you out in a foreign country. So all you need do is sit in front of the fire, drink tea and read your book whilst recovering! Which granted, is not what you signed up for, but at least you’ve got a better view than at home…
I’ve lost count of the number of chalet hosts I’ve met who have said ‘I went on a ski holiday when I was 11 and the host cooked my favourite dinner every day/built a snowman with me/took me bumboarding/let me help bake the cakes, and that’s why I’m here now’. Because you may have great snow, brilliant skiing and a very full belly, but it’s the service that makes the chalet holiday such a winner. Having someone look after you, give you tips on places to ski or the best bars for vin chaud, make your favourite dessert and help entertain your children is what sticks in the memory. Let us help you find the best chalet, and you’ll find that a catered chalet holiday will be the only way to ski from now on!
