Happy Yorkshire Day

01-Aug-2015

August 1st is Yorkshire Day and we thought we’d tell you a few things  about us here at Le Ski world headquarters, Huddersfield.

Holme Moss last summer for the tour de France in Yorkshire

Huddersfield?!

Yes, Huddersfield. You have to live somewhere and this is where we  happen to live – Le Ski have been based here since we started 33  years ago.

So what’s famous about Huddersfield?

Well the main thing, of course, is that it’s home to Le Ski, the internationally renowned chalet company. Our 9 full time office staff all live within 25 minutes of the office. Our office is a large detached ex Coop building from 1927 and is opposite the scout and girl guide hut to which our directors went when they were MUCH younger…

So nothing else happens up there?!

Well actually, quite a lot happens round these parts.
Famous people born round here include: Harold Wilson, James Mason and Patrick Stewart.
The town’s university has developed incredibly over the past decade and was voted best university in Britain last year. Its textile and design courses are so popular they have a permanent office in China!
It’s also the place where the Rugby League was formed in 1895 when it broke away from the Rugby Union. Australia and New Zealand followed suit in 1907 but it took our Southern friends rather longer to accept it! Many still haven’t…

Oh, yes, and Yorkshire beat Australia in the 2012 Olympic Games!!

Yorkshire rounded off an amazing British effort at London 2012 by winning an incredible 12 medals. Competitors from our modest little county won seven gold medals, two silver and three bronzes, placing it twelfth in the medal table if it were an independent country…

310 million mile journey for vital Huddersfield- made part of the Rosetta Comet mission!

The gear wheels used to open the solar panels of Philae, the lander from the amazing Rosetta Comet mission, were made by local firm Reliance Precision. And it worked – they landed on a comet travelling at around 85,000 miles an hour - an incredible achievement.

Yorkshire values, French chalets

Integrity, honesty, a straight forward approach. That’s what we’re renowned for - both as a county and a company.

And that’s what we try extremely hard to deliver in our 29 chalets in Courchevel, La Tania and Val d’Isère. They sleep from 2 to 23 in varying styles. All are ensuite, most have access to hot tub, sauna or steam room and they’re all catered and include unlimited quality wine…

75% of guests are either repeats or recommendations

Those values might help to explain why such a huge proportion of our guests are repeats or recommendations. We tell it like it is, provide at the very least what we’ve promised and usually lots more. And our staff are genuinely friendly. And don’t worry, they’re not trained by Geoff Boycott…

Give us a call

Even if you only want a chat! August is usually quite quiet so if you feel like talking skiing – or anything Yorkshire - feel free to give us a call on 01484 954400.

Happy Yorkshire Day from Up North!
