Snow Report 4th Feb

04-Feb-2014

Wow! What a perfect morning....

Looking out of the window at 8am wasn't particularly inspiring. The day had a slightly grey and cloudy aspect to it, so I wasn't expecting great things from today's ski in the Courchevel valley. And when my first piste of the day was a roughed-up Dou du Midi, I was almost tempted to go for an early coffee as my ski legs were in pretty ropey condition by the bottom. Thank goodness I didn't!!

The rest of the morning was spent carving wide turns across beautifully groomed, smooth, flat pistes with an enormous grin on my face! Seriously, if this is supposed to be mild winter with not so much snow as we've had the last couple of seasons, we have been extremely spoilt as it really was just brilliant. The S3V who look after the piste maintenance provide an exceptionally good service and today the whole resort, from the top of Saulire down into Le Praz and La Tania was in prime condition.

The clouds dispersed throughout the morning, leaving a clear blue sky. It was a little breezy at the top, but not enough to be off-putting, and heading off the peaks onto the lower runs, we were greeted by the sunshine which was showing the first signs of spring warmth.

All morning I was trying to keep a 'piste du jour' in mind. Here they all are, in no particular order: Chenus, Cave des Creux, Park City, Creux, Anemones and Brigues. But special mention goes to Piste M, which, having been groomed overnight (a bit of a rarity) was exceptionally good, with lovely soft snow on a nice flat surface that you can trust your skis to fly down. Awesome...
